Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Celebrate Recovery?
Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

Who is it for?
Anyone and everyone.

What age groups are appropriate for participation?
At this time, ages 16 and above.

Why do I need to attend?
We have all hurt ourselves, we’ve all hurt other people, and others have hurt us. This means, each of us needs to heal from the effects these hurts have on us, and from the control they have in our lives.

What will it do for me?
Celebrate Recovery will provide a safe place for you to begin to work on issues that have been keeping you trapped and separated from the life that God intended for you to live and, in some cases, things that have kept you separated from God.

How often will it meet?
Celebrate Recovery meets every Friday night.

What does a typical evening look like?

  • "Come as you are" dinner and fellowship begins at 6:15 p.m. Dinner is served until 6:50. A $4.00 donation is suggested.
  • Large group worship and teaching begins at 7:00 p.m.
Everyone meets together for a time of worship then a teaching or a testimony in the Fellowship Hall. There is no pre-registration or sign-ups. Upon arrival you will be greeted by someone who will help you become acclimated.
  • Small gender-specific groups begin at 8:00 p.m.:
This is the time to break into recovery specific groups and share and hear from others with similar hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Current open share groups are:
    -Women's chemical dependency
    -Women's co-dependency
-Women's "A-Z" (for those dealing with other issues)
    -Men’s chemical dependency
    -Men’s co-dependency
-Men's "A-Z" (for those dealing with other issues)

All groups follow the five small group guidelines.

  • Dessert and fellowship from 9:00–10:00 p.m. Everyone gathers together for this time. A $1.00 donation is suggested.

You are welcome to participate in any, or all, of the Friday night opportunities.

Where does it meet?
In the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.

How do I get in?
You do not have to sign up; just show up!

What should I wear?
We encourage casual and comfortable.

Is childcare available?
Yes, for infants through 5th grade; no charge; 6:30-9:45 p.m. Parents/caregivers must register their child(ren) and remain on-site for Celebrate Recovery activities.

How much does it cost?
There is not a sign-up fee.

How long does it last?
Though Celebrate Recovery is not a “course”; the structure of the teaching on Friday night repeats every year. This way, you can begin anytime.

What materials are used and how much do they cost?
Materials available are:
Life Recovery Bible - $20.00, Celebrate Recovery Journal - $11.00, Participants Guides ($5.00 each). There are no mandatory purchases. More information is available at the resource table on Friday nights.

Are there groups for men and women?
The small groups are gender specific.

Do I have to stand up and speak before a group of people?
No. There is no pressure, or requirement, to share.

Who are the leaders qualified for this type of ministry?
Like you, the leaders are people who are repenting and/or recovering from the hurts, habits, and hang-ups in their lives. They have completed, or are completing, the participant’s guides, have received the recommended training for leadership in Celebrate Recovery, remain accountable in their specific area of recovery, and desire to serve and help others find wholeness, growth, and spiritual maturity

What makes this program different from non-Christ-centered 12-step programs?
Most people are familiar with the classic 12-step programs of AA and other groups. Based on the actual words of Jesus, Celebrate Recovery incorporates the eight recovery principles, found in the Beatitudes, with the 12-steps.

Will there be anonymity for people to share their heartfelt concerns?
Yes. Providing a safe place where anonymity is respected is a priority.

How will I benefit from attending and completing Celebrate Recovery?
The “road to recovery” from our hurts, habits, and hang-ups leads to wholeness, growth, and spiritual maturity. It doesn’t get much better than that.

How can I get involved?
If you desire to serve, there are many different opportunities! Opportunities to serve will be made available at Friday night gatherings and through this web-site.

What is a step study and where/when do the step studies meet?

The greatest growth and level of accountability takes place in the weekly step studies. Using the Celebrate Recovery participants guides, members of these gender-specific groups study each of the 12-steps and answer and discuss questions at the end of each lesson. Open step study groups are:

Women’s:

  • Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m., Room 211.
  • Check back for other open step studies.

Men’s:

  • No open step studies at this time. Watch for future announcements/openings.

As more leaders are trained, more new studies will become available.
