Providing Opportunities To Learn, Grow, Practice and Serve in Prayer

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

1. THE PRAYER CHAIN

This ministry (which began in 1976) receives calls for ongoing or urgent prayer needs and passes them on to the participants for prayer. We have two chains—daytime and nighttime. If you are home during the day and would like to participate, call Gladys Broadwell - daytime coordinator, 678-5096. If you work during the day, and don't mind getting calls in the evening, call Alice Bounds - nighttime coordinator, 897-3197.

2. EARLY MORNING PRAYER

From 5:30 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. daily, Monday through Friday. This vital ministry provides an open sanctuary to the public for devotional and prayer time. Congregational prayer requests are placed on the altar for the early morning pray-ers to lift up. Various devotional booklets are also provided for those who need them. You may participate by just stopping by, or by signing up to be a Monitor. Contact persons: Alice Bounds, 897-3197, and Mary Eleanor Milton, 678-1969.

3. SUNDAY MORNING INTERCESSION FOR THE SERVICES

This group of people meet at 7:45 A.M. each Sunday in the Library in order to lift up the morning and evening worship services, as well as the Sunday School hours. Contact person: Gene Barham, 678-9282.

4. THE UPPER ROOM

This is a vital behind-the-scenes ministry in which participants pray for one hour a week at their assigned time in our Upper Room (room 511 at the back of the Sanctuary). These volunteers pray for congregational needs, the needs of the various pastors and ministries that the church is involved with, and for local, state, national and international concerns. Assignments are rotated about every 2 1/2 months as a new cycle begins. Cub Sullivan, 678-1287, chairperson.

5. FEET TO FAITH

"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us..." (Heb. 12:1) This is a multi-faceted prayer ministry that seeks to improve us - body, soul, and spirit through the disciplines of prayer combined with walking, running, or cycling. There are 3 tracks available:

A. The Personal Prayer & Praise Time Track. The walker, runner, cycler uses their time to praise and worship their Creator, as well as to seek Him in personal and intercessory prayer. Pick up the brochures entitled "Prayer Basics I" and "Prayer Basics II" to help you in your personal prayer time. These are found on the wall in the hall across from the Marler Chapel.

B. The Prayer Evangelism Track. On this track, the participant prays for each house or business that they pass. They pray for opportunities to possibly meet and get to know these unknown people and their personal concerns. Brochures are available to help you with your "plowing the fields" for God as you exercise.

C. The Walking/Racing/Cycling Team Track. This track doesn’t involve prayer per se but is for the folks in our congregation that would like to be a part of a church team that enters the various races in our area.

Call John Sullivan, 678-1287. For racing information call Dan Hollis, 729-1970, or Suzanne Herzog, 897-5174.

6. FASTING & PRAYER MINISTRY

To participate in this ministry you agree to do a full or partial fast as you pray for our church, its people, future ministry, etc. This ministry also provides periodic teachings on fasting, and promotes "church wide" full or partial fasts for certain occasions and seasons of the year. Suzanne Niedbalski, 729-1471, chairperson.

7. ADOPT—A—MISSIONARY

This joint venture between Missions and Prayer Ministries will kick off in November. Sunday School Classes, small groups, families and individuals will covenant to prayerfully support one of our missionary families (front of the Bulletin) for one calendar year. The adopters covenant to pray daily for their family, and to support them emotionally with e-mails, birthday and anniversary cards, and in other ways the Lord reveals. This will broaden your prayer lives as well as get you involved in "the Mission field". Many home and group studies can be done on the countries involved, their culture, spiritual heritage, etc. If you would like to be involved with this ministry, contact Sandy Pearson, 683-1566; or Lew Wilder, 678-4411.

8. WATCHMEN ON THE WALLS

In this ministry people pray in their homes for the various needs of our pastors, staff and ministries. The assignment received will depend upon which night the person/family signs up to pray. Prayer can be lifted up for the assignment any time during the evening chosen. Volunteers will receive monthly updates and praise reports from their "assignment". Many can’t come to the church to be a part of the early morning or Upper Room teams, but EVERYONE can have a part in the future of our church in this ministry. This is also a great way to broaden your children’s prayer horizons. Sign up now. Contact persons: Lew Wilder, 678-4411, ext. 29, or Pat Peterson, 897-3686.

9. SPECIAL INTEREST PRAYER GROUPS

These can be started anytime by people with a particular burden or passion in prayer. Currently their is: Prayer for the Islamic Peoples and Nations—Call Julie Moore, 897-7876, for the time and location.

10. PRAYER VIGIL MINISTRY

This ministry functions when church or national concerns require a concentrated prayer thrust. Anyone can sign up for a time or times. Suggestions for prayer are also disseminated to help the participants focus their prayer time. Volunteers are needed for the creation of the prayer lists and for help with the "sign up" process. Chuck Turk, Chairpersons, 678-5827.

11. RETREAT WEEKENDS—Beginning in 2002

Twice a year small groups of people (12-15) will go to a quiet retreat center for 24—48 hours of worship and solitude with the Lord. This will not be a time for intercessions or to get answers to myriads of questions, but to just BE with the Lover of our Souls. If health allows it, a 24 hour liquid fast will be encouraged. Worship time, mini-teachings, Communion, solitude, and journaling will be part of the agenda. Call Eva Huber, 678-3201, for more information.

12. THE SCHOOL OF PRAYER

This ministry provides a variety of classes on prayer each semester for those who want to learn more about prayer. Anyone may take these classes. If you have the gift of teaching and a passion for prayer, please consider teaching one of these very rewarding courses. Call Eva Huber, 678-3201, or Lew Wilder, 678-4411 ext. 29, to volunteer.

13. ALTAR PRAYER TEAM

Members of the prayer team have undergone an interview and training process. This ministry is for mature Christians that feel comfortable praying with others and in introducing people to Christ. Prayer team members serve at various church wide retreats and special services, as well as serve when called upon at the regular services. Call Lew Wilder, 678-4411, or Pat Peterson, 897-3686, for more information.

14. PRAYER REQUEST FOLLOW-UP TEAM

This group of individuals follows up on the prayer requests that have been prayed for in the Upper Room and at the Altar during the 5:30-8 A.M. early morning prayer time. They will either update the requests with new information or record the answers/praise reports. This group is responsible for posting the Praise Reports on the Praise Board found on the wall near the main office. Contact: Gladys Broadwell, 678-5096, and Dot Manning, 678-7120.

15. THE PRAYER BROCHURE TEAM

This administrative team prepares, proofreads, and publishes all of the informational materials for the many prayer ministries of this church. Some knowledge of office machines is helpful, but not necessary. Materials published or purchased by this team for your own spiritual growth are found on the wall in the hall across from the Chapel. Pat Peterson, 897-3686, Chairperson.
