Guatemala Missions Trip (July 31 - August 7, 2010)

This year our largest group ever served at Casa Bernabe orphanage outside the capital city of Guatemala. Thirty-nine people served in various capacities from special needs school instruction, construction of a medical clinic that serves the local community and the orphanage, maintaining the several acres garden that saves costly food expense, and many other projects. Different this year was our team taking full responsibility over the 160 children while the team provided a well needed retreat/training of 50 staff members who enjoyed time away from their 24 hour a day jobs. Led by psychologist Dr. Michael and wife Shawnea, the staff returned refreshed from their 2 day spiritual and physical rejuvenation after being provided practical methods for dealing with their unique and sometimes stressful positions. The Niceville team also brought nearly $4,000 of new donations including needed blankets and clothing, shoes and medicines. Consider going next summer on our 10th annual mission trip as our church continues to minister in a vital way in Guatemala. Contact Andrew Griffin agriffin@nicevilleumc.org if you are interested. And check out their website, where you can immediately assist these children who have been abandoned, abused and neglected - but now find a place of refuge as they are shown the love of Christ. www.foce.org
