To Know Christ, To Grow in Christ, To Share Christ and His Love

What is the Point?

What is the point? That was the question posed to a young believer as he tried to share his faith with one of his peers. The same question could be expressed in many other ways. Who cares, why does that matter; or what does that have to do with me, are variations on the same theme.

Our faith claims that there is a God. That God loves us passionately, wants to redeem every shortcoming in our life, and desires for us to know and walk with Him. Our faith claims that Jesus was that same God in human form. The acceptance or rejection of Jesus as God, is the pivot point of whether we receive forgiveness, know God, walk with God, and become like Him, or not.

So who was Jesus? N.T. Wright writes the following in The Challenge of Jesus. "In Jesus himself, I suggest, we see the biblical portrait of YHWH [Old Testament name of God] come to life: the loving God, rolling up his sleeves (Isaiah 52:20) to do in person the job that no one else could do; the creator God, giving new life; the God who works through his created world and supremely through his human creatures; the faithful God, dwelling in the midst of his people; the stern and tender God, relentlessly opposed to all that destroys or distorts the good creation and especially human beings, but recklessly loving all those in need and distress."

The point is we are created beings made for a purpose. Our lives can never reach that potential apart from God revealed in Jesus. If we want to experience life to its fullest, we must decide that Jesus is God and we will accept His ways in our life. It is the decision that matters most in life. No other comes close.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 10:9 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

If you have never asked Christ to come into your life and be your Lord and Savior, and you want to now, pray something like this:

"God, thank You for loving me so much. I realize that in my thoughts and actions I have broken Your holy law. I believe that You sent Your Son Jesus to take the punishment that I deserve. I believe He died for me and then rose again. I now accept Your loving offer of forgiveness and eternal life. Amen."

If you prayed that prayer from your heart, tell others what you have done. Seek out a group of believers, wherever you are, who can help you to study the Bible and grow in Christ's likeness.
